In late October, Mark Hagerott, North Dakota University System Chancellor and Jerry Rostad, Vice Chancellor, spent a day in Valley City discussing the partnership between VCSU and Valley City Public Schools. Topics around the table included technology in the classroom and both the student teacher and subbing programs.

During the visit, Alaina Gleason, a senior elementary education major, shared the benefits of the relationship between VCSU and VCHS. "This time spent in the schools has given me first-hand experience working with students, teachers and my peers. In my own classes at VCSU, I have been exposed to so much technology that is advancing the learning of the students."

Gleason has spent time observing a 6th grade science class taught by Mrs. Katie Gordon '10, where students have been creating stop-motion films on mitosis using their iPads. "Students are so creative and this project helped them express that while learning about mitosis," said Gleason. "By having this opportunity to learn from current teachers and their students I feel more prepared to become a teacher with a classroom of my own."
