Valley City State University announced on March 25 a series of campus events, student exhibitions, awards, and athletic updates scheduled through early April.
The announcement highlights the range of academic, cultural, and athletic activities taking place at the university. These events offer opportunities for students to showcase their talents, for the community to engage with campus life, and for supporters to contribute to student success.
Senior Jora Leeseberg will present her capstone art exhibit titled “Bloom” from March 30 through April 10 at the Larry J. Robinson Center for the Arts Gallery. The exhibition features various mediums including textiles, ceramics, photography, and painting. Leeseberg will give an artist talk on April 8 at 3 p.m., which will also be live-streamed on the VCSU Art Department YouTube channel. Her work can be viewed online as well.
The university’s music department is set to host Norwegian concert pianist Oda Voltersvik in a recital called “Grieg in Dialogue” on April 12 at 7:30 p.m., also at the Larry J. Robinson Center for the Arts. The program includes works by Edvard Grieg alongside other composers from his era and beyond.
Erica Buchholz, vice president for business affairs, received this month’s “Difference Maker” award after being nominated by several offices within VCSU. Her nomination praised her leadership during the presidential search process and ongoing commitment to addressing institutional challenges: “Over the past several months, Erica has taken on a significant amount of responsibility while serving as Co-Chair of the Presidential Search Committee… For her tireless efforts, thoughtful leadership and unwavering commitment to Valley City State University, we are proud to nominate Erica Buchholz for this recognition.”
Tickets are now available for VCSU’s annual Scholarship Auction set for April 17 at Valley City Eagles Club under this year’s theme “Stars, Stripes & Scholarships.” The event features both live and silent auctions with new options such as reserved seating available online or via phone.
Athletics updates include recent performances by Viking baseball—currently holding a record of 14-11—and softball teams with junior Kennadi Stone earning conference Player of the Week honors following strong weekend statistics. Track and field teams opened their outdoor season in Bismarck with multiple top finishes; they travel next to Collegeville, Minnesota.
Additional community happenings include senior art shows running through late March into early April as well as fundraisers like Friday’s Viking Fish Fry benefiting athletic scholarships.
