Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak has recently shared a series of posts on X, focusing on the potential impact of a government shutdown and the ongoing debate over passing a continuing resolution (CR). Her posts include quotations from other members of Congress expressing concern over the consequences for various groups in society.

On September 19, 2025, Fedorchak quoted Rep. Joe Neguse’s warning about the effects of a shutdown: “.@RepJoeNeguse: ‘The consequences of a government shutdown will be devastating—for our troops, law enforcement, working families, our economy and every American.’”

In another post from the same day, she commented on Democratic opposition to a continuing resolution: “Clearly, there’s NO rational reason for Democrats to oppose a CR that maintains funding levels they’ve already supported. Hopefully Senate Democrats will do better.”

Fedorchak also cited Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s concerns regarding who would be most affected by a government shutdown: “.@RepPressley: ‘This [government] shutdown, do you know who is going to feel the pain? You know who it hurts? You. everyday people and the most vulnerable — seniors, veterans, working families, hungry kids y’all.’”

The debate over government funding and potential shutdowns is an ongoing issue in U.S. politics. Continuing resolutions are temporary measures passed by Congress to keep federal agencies funded when annual appropriations bills have not been enacted. If lawmakers fail to pass these resolutions or reach an agreement on spending bills by established deadlines, nonessential federal operations can halt until new funding is approved.

Government shutdowns have occurred several times in recent decades due to political disagreements over budget priorities or specific policy issues tied to funding legislation. The resulting disruptions often affect federal employees, military personnel, and beneficiaries of public services such as food assistance programs and veterans’ benefits.
