Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) addressed the House Floor to emphasize the advantages of the One Big Beautiful Bill for North Dakota residents and Americans nationwide. The bill aims to benefit families, energy producers, farmers, and others by implementing significant reforms and cutting more than $1.7 trillion in government spending.
Fedorchak highlighted various groups that would benefit from the bill: "Working class families. Seniors on fixed incomes. Farmers growing our food. Restaurant waitresses working double shifts. Law enforcement officers putting in overtime." She stressed that these are not "millionaires and billionaires" but everyday Americans.
The congresswoman argued against claims that the bill favors tax cuts for the wealthy or eliminates healthcare for those in need, stating, "This One Big Beautiful Bill is pro-family, pro-business and worker, pro-American energy and agriculture, pro-border and national security, and above all, it is pro-growth and pro-common sense."
Key provisions include increasing the Child Tax Credit to $2,500, raising standard deductions for all filers, establishing savings accounts for newborns, and creating a new deduction on Social Security benefits for seniors. Fedorchak noted that an average family of four in North Dakota could save approximately $1,600 in taxes.
For businesses and workers, the bill proposes a permanent increase of the Small Business Deduction to 23 percent and allows 100 percent immediate expensing for equipment upgrades. It also reduces taxes on tips and overtime earnings.
Regarding energy and agriculture sectors crucial to North Dakota's economy, Fedorchak stated that the bill repeals over $500 billion in Green New Deal style spending while supporting mineral development. Provisions also aim to enhance safety nets for farmers by improving crop insurance.
The legislation includes a significant investment of nearly $150 billion in border security measures while enhancing military capabilities through increased pay and resources for service members.
Fedorchak concluded by asserting that this legislation represents a shift towards accountability and common sense governance: "It's about restoring common sense, restoring accountability... This bill puts working families first."
