The NDSU student-run 800 Café is scheduled to open to the public every Friday starting Feb. 24 through April 28.
The on-campus restaurant managed by nutrition science and dietetic students is part of the nutrition science and dietetics program. Meals offered are 800 calories or less as the name suggests. These meals are focused on whole foods and making as many things as possible from scratch.
The meal planned for Feb. 24 is managed by students Elli Ailts from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Kendra Kisner from Albany, Minnesota. The menu features a lettuce and vegetable salad with salsa ranch dressing, homemade turkey burger on a whole wheat bun with a side of avocado and diced sweet potatoes, followed by a fruit kabob featuring fresh strawberries, pineapple and green grapes with a side of cinnamon yogurt dip.
The theme for the opening date will be “Taylor Swift” with each restaurant worker of the class wearing a T-shirt corresponding to their favorite Taylor Swift album along with the manager Elli’s favorite album “Folklore” playing in the background.
The first seating is at 11 a.m. and the last seating is at 12:15 p.m., but guests are welcome to enjoy a leisurely meal until 1:45 p.m. Each meal costs $10 per person, or 4 meals for $35 with a purchased punch card. Payments can be made in the form of cash or check at the door.
Seating is limited, so reservations are preferred, but walk-ins are also welcomed. Reservations can be made online or by contacting the HNES department at Nancy.Moberg@ndsu.edu or 701-231-7474.
The class is instructed by Sherri Nordstrom Stastny, professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences.
Parking is available in the visitor’s pay lot on the South side of the Memorial Union on campus.
