Raymond J. March, NDSU assistant professor of agribusiness and applied economics and Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth scholar, was quoted in a new WalletHub online article.
The article, “Cheapest Car Insurance Companies,” by car insurance writer Candace Baker, was published Feb. 3. March was one of 18 experts from around the country featured in the story.
Among other rankings, the story said car insurance is least expensive in Wyoming, while Michigan is the most expensive. North Dakota is listed as the fifth least expensive.
“States often have different minimum insurance requirements, which means drivers could be expected to purchase insurance with broader and more extensive coverages, “ March said in the article.
“Different states also have different factors which affect the likelihood of an accident (more traffic, younger demographics, worse weather, older roads, more/fewer highways).
Providers compete and offer rates based on the risk factors of the policyholder and the driving environment. Because their assessment of these risks can vary – they may charge more or less to a driver.”March earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and his master’s degree and doctorate in agricultural and applied economics at Texas Tech University.
His research has appeared in Southern Economic Journal, Public Choice, Research Policy, Journal of Institutional Economics and other academic publications. He also co-edited the 2022 book, “Pandemics and Liberty.”As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
