Green School Vandalized

16

Barnes County Historical Society issued the following announcement.

At the beginning of May, Historic Green Consolidated School was broken into.  BOTH front door's bottom panels were kicked in to gain access.  A couple windows were broken as well.

Thankfully nothing else was damaged other than the movie projector and old films stolen.  Generations of kids went in and out those doors thousands of times over the years. Their initial idea was to find replacement doors, but since Green is the last of its kind in the state, possibly nation, they’d be hard to come by.  "The Crew," Howard Langemo, Mylo Falstad, and Bob Bubach have stepped forward to fix them so they can be put back in place with the hopes that the newly added security cameras will help deter or at least catch further perpetrators as there is nothing of value in there other than memories. (Thank you guys!)

UPDATE!  The Green School folks have come this morning to collect the repaired doors.  The $211 in donations that have come in is in their hands and going toward the purchase of the new security cameras as well as helping fix broken glass.  They'd always appreciate more.  We can use the Society as a pass-through with our 501c3

We do need to find a better use for Green School as museums just don’t generate the necessary money to sustain themselves as historic sites.  They need constant maintenance and monitoring.  To be able to keep the building intact but with a contemporary use to ensure that it is used and maintained is needed.  It would make a heck of a house.
