NDSU professor re-elected to international ethics association board

North Dakota State University issued the following announcement.

Dennis Cooley, professor of philosophy and ethics and Northern Plains Ethics Institute director, has been re-elected to a four-year term on the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics board of directors. Cooley serves as board secretary and co-chair of the association’s Programming Committee.

The association is a multidisciplinary, international organization advancing scholarship, education and practice in practical and professional ethics. It facilitates and supports scholarly and professional collaborations among teachers, scientists, business practitioners, engineers, government officials, researchers, the media and all professionals concerned with the practical application of ethics and values.

Cooley earned his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Rochester. His teaching and research interests include theoretical and applied ethics with a focus on pragmatism, bioethics, business ethics, personhood and death and dying. He is the author or editor of five books and a number of professional ethics articles. Cooley is editor of Springer’s International Library of Bioethics and the NPEI’s Northern Plains Ethics Journal. His professional service includes executive board membership and chair elect for Humanities ND.
