North Dakota State University’s softball team lost to Omaha 8-0 on March 20 in the opening game of their Summit League series at Connie Claussen Field.
The game marked the start of conference play for both teams. Omaha took advantage of early errors by North Dakota State, scoring two runs in the first inning and four more in the second. The Bison were unable to recover from the early deficit, and Omaha added two additional runs in the third inning, leading to a run-rule victory.
North Dakota State managed only two hits during the contest. Amai Hanta singled in the second inning and also stole a base, while Bella Dean recorded a single in the fourth. Despite getting runners into scoring position several times—including stranding two runners on base with no outs in the second inning—the Bison were unable to score.
Pitcher Madison Wihlm was charged with the loss after allowing six runs, four of them earned, over 1.2 innings. Piper Reed finished out the game for North Dakota State, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up two runs.
The Bison are scheduled to continue their series against Omaha with game two set for Saturday at Connie Claussen Field.
