The North Dakota State University baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Omaha on March 14 at Tal Anderson Field. The Bison fell 6-2 in the first game and 2-0 in the second, concluding their series with three losses.
These results are significant as they extend NDSU’s record to 2-17 overall and 0-3 in Summit League play, while Omaha improved to 7-10 overall and 3-0 in conference games.
In the second game, both teams remained scoreless through six innings. Jonah Walker started for NDSU, retiring 16 consecutive batters after allowing a double and a walk in the first inning. However, Omaha broke through in the seventh when Hayden Lewis hit a two-run single. The Bison left runners stranded in each of the final two innings and were unable to score. Walker finished with four strikeouts, three walks, and allowed two runs over six innings. Hudson Hart pitched the last two frames with two strikeouts. Diego Trujillo led NDSU offensively with two hits from four at-bats.
In the opening game, Evan Gustafson gave NDSU an early lead with a two-run home run in the third inning. Omaha responded by scoring five runs across the fifth and sixth innings, including a three-run double by Lewis that put them ahead for good. Henry Zipay added another run for Omaha in the eighth inning. Brayden Marks started for NDSU, pitching five innings with one strikeout before Sheamus Ryan closed out the final three innings.
NDSU will look to rebound when they face Minnesota on Tuesday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
