North Dakota State University’s women’s golf team is in a tie for sixth place after the first round of the SoCal Spring Invitational at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo, California. The Bison posted a team score of 305, which puts them level with CSU Northridge and places them in the middle of the 15-team field.
Sophomore Avery Bartels leads the way for NDSU, finishing her opening round tied for first place individually. Bartels shot a 72, recording three birdies and playing 12 holes at par to end the day one over par.
Norah Roberts finished just outside the top 20. She ended her round with a score of 76, tying for 23rd place after staying even through 11 holes and picking up a birdie on hole 18 to finish five over par.
Madi Hicks and Hannah Dunk followed closely behind. Hicks shot a 77 with an even-par performance on 12 holes and made a birdie on her last hole to finish six over par, tying for 32nd place. Dunk, competing as an individual, scored an eagle on hole seven and finished at +7 to tie for 40th.
Cora Larson was NDSU’s final scorer in round one, carding an 80 with a birdie on the fourth hole to tie for 57th. Jeri Lafleche rounded out the Bison lineup with an 82 (+11), tying for 67th.
The tournament continues Monday morning with tee times starting at 9:40 a.m. Pacific Time. Full results are available online.
