The North Dakota State University (NDSU) baseball team lost to Creighton University, 16-4, on April 8 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. The Bison started strong but were overtaken by a series of unanswered runs from the Bluejays.
This result highlights ongoing challenges for NDSU this season as they continue to search for consistency. The loss brings their record to 4-20 overall and 1-5 in Summit League play.
NDSU began the game with promise, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning through bases-loaded walks drawn by Chase Womack and Kaden Connor. Evan Gustafson extended the advantage with his sixth home run of the season in the third inning. Blake Timmons added an RBI single later that inning, giving NDSU a 4-0 edge.
Creighton responded forcefully, scoring sixteen consecutive runs. Issac Wachsmann started their rally with a solo home run in the fourth inning before an eight-run fifth put Creighton firmly ahead. Lew Rice finished off the win for Creighton with a three-run homer in the seventh inning that enforced a run-rule ending.
The Bison used ten different pitchers during the game. Garrett Shupe made the start and struck out one batter over one inning pitched. Braden Gluth contributed two strikeouts over two innings, while AJ Lausten made his debut for NDSU and recorded two strikeouts over less than an inning pitched.
Looking ahead, NDSU will travel to face Northern Colorado on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
