The North Dakota State University (NDSU) baseball team lost to Northern Colorado, 11-10, in extra innings on April 11 at Jackson Field.
The game was marked by a comeback attempt from NDSU after trailing by five runs. Northern Colorado built an early lead with six runs in the third inning, including a two-run single from Sam Pease. Dante Smith began the Bison’s rally in the fourth with his first RBI triple of the season, followed by Diego Trujillo’s sacrifice fly that reduced the deficit.
Blake Timmons added an RBI single for NDSU in the fifth inning. In the seventh, Evan Gustafson hit a two-run home run to tie the game at eight. However, Northern Colorado responded with two more runs in their half of the seventh. Caleb Corbin then tied it again for NDSU after reaching on an error and sending home Colten Becker and Smith.
The game went into extra innings where Jake Bullard delivered an RBI single up the middle for Northern Colorado’s walk-off win. The Bison matched their season-high with 11 hits as a team. Corbin finished three-for-four at bat with three runs and three RBIs, nearly hitting for the cycle. Smith also had three hits and one RBI while Chase Womack recorded his first multiple-hit game.
On pitching duty for NDSU were Brayden Marks who struck out three over three innings; Zak Szabo provided relief over more than three frames; Braden Gluth added nearly two innings; and Cade Wiegert closed out pitching duties.
NDSU is scheduled to conclude its series against Northern Colorado tomorrow with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
