Senior Jake Skarperud led the North Dakota State University men’s golf team on April 6 after the opening 36 holes of the inaugural Racer Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Paducah.
Skarperud posted rounds of 71 and 69, totaling a score of 140 to tie for fifth place. He recorded four birdies in his first round and finished one under par through eleven holes, ending at one under for the round. In his second round, he added five more birdies and matched his season-low score with a three-under-par performance, placing him at four under overall.
Rylin Petry completed two rounds with scores of 73 and 71, finishing even par through Monday’s play. Petry’s first round included two birdies and thirteen pars for a total of one over par. He followed up with an eagle on the fifteenth hole in his second round along with two more birdies to finish that round at one under par. Petry is tied for twentieth heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Carter White, Andrew Ballou, and Joey Mackinac are all tied for thirty-fourth place after recording totals of two over par across their respective rounds. White shot an even-par opening round with three birdies before finishing two over in his second outing. Ballou started strong with a one-under-par effort featuring three birdies but ended up three over in his next eighteen holes. Mackinac played as an individual competitor and delivered consistent scores across both rounds while leading the team in total birdies during Monday’s play.
Gabe Benson rounded out NDSU’s lineup by shooting a combined four over par after posting scores of seventy-three and seventy-five across both rounds.
The Bison collectively scored even par (287-289—576) through thirty-six holes to secure fourth place entering Tuesday’s concluding session.
