Brynn Hanson, a junior at Des Lacs-Burlington High School, was named the 2025-2026 North Dakota High School Activities Association and Farmers Union Insurance Distinguished Student, according to a Mar. 22 announcement. The selection followed interviews held on April 30 at Farmers Union Insurance Headquarters in Jamestown.
The program recognizes students who contribute significantly to interscholastic activities in their schools and communities. It aims to honor those whose participation strengthens programs for all involved, not just those in leadership roles.
Elizabeth Pinke of Northwood High School was chosen as runner-up. Other finalists included Ava Peterson from New Rockford-Sheyenne High School, Finnegan Kielty from Fargo North High School, Bryce Larson from Kidder County High School, and Aubrey Middlestead from Ellendale High School. These six finalists were selected based on applications submitted by high school principals across the state.
Applicants for the NDHSAA Distinguished Student program must be entering their senior year and participate in at least one NDHSAA-sponsored activity as a player, manager, statistician or other role. They are also expected to demonstrate good citizenship and serve as role models within their schools and communities.
Hanson will receive a $2,000 scholarship sponsored by Farmers Union Insurance and will serve as the NDHSAA spokesperson for High School Activities Month. She will also promote the values of activity programs and participate in awarding trophies at state contests throughout the school year. The runner-up receives a $1,000 scholarship while each of the other four finalists is awarded $500 scholarships along with recognition in the NDHSAA Bulletin and during association events.
